The Matcham Hall
The Matcham Hall is a small, historic public hall located in the picturesque Matcham and Holgate Valleys of the NSW Central Coast. Established in 1916, the Hall was built by members of the local community to serve as a focus for activities and entertainment. In the early years, the Hall was used for community dances and get togethers, for Sunday Services before the foundation of the St George's Church and for meetings on community issues. Ninety years later the Hall remains an important part of our local community. As new residents move into the valley they are always welcome to come and meet some of their neighbours at one of our BBQs or parties. We hope that the Hall will always be used for a range of activities, appealing to many different ages and backgrounds. This is the way we hope to continue that tradition of community involvement that the founders of our lovely little Hall had in mind so long ago.
The Matcham Hall remains one of the few public halls in NSW still owned and run by the community. The Matcham Hall is run by the Matcham Public Hall Association, a registered non-profit community organisation incorporated under the Dept of Fair Trading Act. Membership of the Association is available to any residents of Matcham or Holgate through our Secretary. Application forms are available here. The Hall is maintained and run through the Matcham Public Hall Committee, a group of volunteers elected at the Annual General Meeting held in November each year. The work of the Committee is to maintain and support the Hall through fund-raising and voluntary labour and to ensure that the Hall remains available for the use of the entire Community. The Hall hosts a variety of activities and social groups including dance and Tai Chi classes. There are regular meetings of the local garden club and the Rare Plants Society. The Hall also hosts community meetings such as CCProtect Environment group, Wildlife ARC and the Central Coast Environment Network. On a lighter note, the Hall is also the site of frequent parties, BBQs, kid's discos. Xmas in July and the annual community Christmas Party, as well as classical and contemporary music performances, drama and comedy. The Matcham Hall is available for hire for any appropriate function or meeting at very reasonable rates. The Committee are committed to supporting any worthwhile community events while protecting the special character of our rural environment.
